Tyler Chorlton in Alaska

Check out Tyler Chorlton’s update on his trip to Alaska. Here’s what he says:

After trying to deal with the lack of snow in Europe Fichtl, Arthur, Carlos and I made the 26 hour journey to Anchorage AK, to hook up with Pasha for a 3 week sled trip to find winter snow again.
But our excitement had to be suppressed for 2 days because as usual our luggage didn’t make our flight… then got lost…
But eventually the airline company sorted it’s shit out, 4am delivery i had to stay awake for… they arrived! Then at 7am the next morning it was time to boost!
We drove a couple of hours to the north with the Russian/Alaskan dude of all dudes Sergey who hooked us up big time!
When we unloaded the sleds the view of the mountains was insane!
After a half hour sled ride of showing our sled skills to the Sergey (yeah right!) we found our first spot. Shit was amazing! Thank you AK! And thank you Sergey for the shuttling!
Session over we decided to scope out further into the valley, we were sledding over some enormous slides that had come down some days before and the place made you feel very small.
When you spot a feature in AK you realize once you get up close that its about 5 times bigger than you previously thought and that if you hit it you’d probably die or even worse…
The end of the day was approaching fast and to save a 2 to 3 hour drive back to Anchorage we stayed in a Lodge close by.
Next morning, sore as a bitch we unloaded the sleds once again. On the way in we spotted a zone we had missed the previous day sessioned that instead to going deeper into the valley and feeling like micro-ants…
Some shots in the bag for everyone, stoked, time to head back to the city to recover while the bad weather passes over and dumps its dump.

Total Fight 2010: Freeski Cronicle

The pick of the crop of freeskiers have once again joined forces for the sixth edition of the Grandvalira Total Fight Masters of Freestyle, southern Europe’s most exciting Freestyle event. All the skiers showed off their incredible skill on the el Tarter snowpark slopestyle, but it was the Finnish rider, Pekka Hysalo, who grabbed the crown with an incredible double cork 12 farmute on the big air, followed by a unnatural 7 tail and finished off with a switch 9 farmute, making him the undisputed winner of the competition.

Spirits were high amongst the crowds of locals and ski fanatics who made their way up to the park after a heavy night of partying to the sounds of the Nasty Monday’s DJ duo the night before. The spectators cheered and showed their unwavering support to the riders hailing from countries such as Finland, Austria, Andorra, and Spain. Hysalo was accompanied on the podium by fellow fin Oskari Raitanen in second place and local Spaniard Paco Benguerel in third place.

Total Fight 2010: Snowboard Cronicle

Once again the heat was on in the El Tarter snowpark for the 6th edition of the now legendary Grandvalira Total Fight Masters of Freestyle. Under bright blue skies, Finnish rider Ville Uotila pulled off his fantastic victory with a Switch backsidedouble Cork 12in his last round in the big air line, making him this year’s master of the fight. As overall winner of the competition, Uotila goes home with 4 SWATCH TTR stars putting him into 17th position on the world tour circuit. Over the course of two days, some of the most important international riders, including a bevy of Scandinavians, dominated the slopestyle with an astounding display of their skills on a snowboard. Locals and snowboard fanatics gathered together to cheer on the athletes coming from near and far, including countries such as Finland, Spain, Andorra, France, Sweden and Austria. EnricBonvehi, head of the Coliflor team of shapers and organiser of the event, said he was stoked with the level of riding, the enthusiasm of the crowds who came to support the athletes and the good atmosphere that reigned during the event. Uotila was accompanied on the podium by Ulrik Badertscher in second place, Victor De Le Rue in third place and Kim Rune Hansen in fourth place.

Ville Uotila described his third victory as amazing but his biggest achievement was pulling off the Switch backsidedouble Cork 12, a trick he’d never tried before and which he landed to perfection, “landing that trick made this Total Fight for me” he said.

Action packed “après ski”

The action didn’t slow down in the afternoon with a flatland demonstration put on by Redbull in which riders showed off their skills on a bike cheered on by the crowd, who enjoyed the afternoon sun to the last. After a little break, the action started up again at 7pm with a night time jib session, a first in the history of the Total Fight. Spectators gathered round in the El Tarter carpark, to watch both skiers and snowboarders grind the famous local staircase. Snowboarders were represented by the Argentinean Facu Vial who won the competition with a switch backside lipslide, followed by the Swede Noa Gadelius and the Argentinean Santi Gamen. In skiing local Javi Vega came first with a 270 in 270 out followed by Spaniard Luka Melloni and Andorran Noah Albaladejo. The evening ended with a dj session by Barcelona’s Nasty Monday’s duo and Crappy Tuesdays, in the tent put up in the El Tarter carpark for the occasion. Nasty Monday’s and crappy Tuesday’s have become a firm fixture of the Barcelona night time scene, so it was nice to share the good music altogether for this celebration of the freestyle spirit.
